Guess my Valentine

It’s been a little while since Guess Jewellery last made an appearance on the blog, things got all kinds of crazy with Christmas content but now that’s done and dusted I can focus on shiny, pretty things for the year ahead, kicking off with their Valentine’s collection called “Crystals of Love”.

Ring / Necklace / Earrings / Bracelet / Skirt

I think this is one of the prettiest, most delicate Guess Jewellery collections yet, with each piece perfect for every day wearing. I’ll be dropping some serious hints as February 14th nears- I think I want everything in the collection and all in the super pretty Rose Gold colour (also available in Gold and Rhodium). Prices range from £35.00-£40.00 so it’s not a massive spend…perfectly priced for treating yourself I’d say!
Also on my radar right now is the gorgeous pink textured skirt from the Marks and Spencer Limited Collection. Perfect for a romantic date and for pairing with delicate jewellery this is just one of many amazing new pieces just arrived at M&S.
Be mine, Valentine?

Just Purrfect

Back in September I reviewed the first edition of the Purrfect Box. It’s been going for a few months now, and after such a brilliant first experience with it I was delighted when I was contacted again about reviewing the Christmas edition. Now, I know Christmas has long been and gone but due to a hiccup with delivery the box arrived later than planned- it didn’t matter one bit to Mae though, she still got stuck in with great enthusiasm!
The box was filled full of festive treats, and although Mae looks quite nonchalant in the photos she really was quite excited- she’s just the queen of playing it cool. This is also the reason why we had our photo session on the stairs, it’s currently Mae’s playground of choice and despite my best efforts nowhere else would do!
Highlights from the Christmas box were the Chick’n Snack Sandwiches from Karlie Flamingo which she is just besotted with. The bag isn’t going to last us very long at all and these will be a definite repurchase. Toy wise it had to be the gingerbread man on a stick, when she isn’t busy batting the stuffing out of it she is carrying it around the house in her mouth- bashing it in to doors and furniture. Actually, and unusually for Mae all of the toys in this months box were a hit- the little merry mice and the play ‘n fill toys have had their fair share of time spent stuck in fierce feline jaws too!
The treats in the Good Girl multi pack weren’t quite to Mae’s taste, she’s not a fan of milky or cat nip treats, but Tobias (Ben’s cat) has benefitted from these- he’s never one to turn down a special snack, or indeed any snack!
The one product we haven’t really tried yet is the grooming mitt, the second I get anywhere near Mae with it she runs a mile. She’s only one for being groomed when it’s on her terms, and lately it hasn’t been top of her agenda. I’ll report back though, if I get anywhere with her as I think it’s a brilliant idea- and if she continues to ignore it I’ll send it Tobias’ way as well, he loves a good brush.
As I said in my September post, I really do think Purrfect Box is a marvellous idea. The Purrfect Box is a monthly subscription which costs £19.90 a month, or £15.90 per month if you take out a years subscription. The contents of the box are guaranteed to be worth at least £30 with 4-6 premium products inside so it’s a pretty sweet deal, especially as each box is catered to your feline’s needs and preferences. Let me know if you’d decide to treat your feline friend to a box- I’ll be picked up a few on a one off basis throughout the year, I can’t afford it on a monthly basis but as an every so often treat I think it’s wonderful!
Not a cat owner but have a pooch you want to pamper? There’s also the Pawsome Box too!

Stylist Pick

Just before Christmas I was lucky enough to win a twitter competition hosted by BassBuds and as well as becoming the owner of a stunning pair of earphones I also received a voucher to spend at Stylistpick. As it was post-Christmas by the time I spent my voucher I managed to get quite a lot with my voucher, all to feature in up-coming posts I’m sure! Today though I am showing off my most favourite “purchase”- my dream ankle boots!

Dress: Marks and Spencer | Boots: Stylist Pick (here)

Are they not just perfect? Shiny, chunky heeled Chelsea boots complete with a bit of bling. I’m smitten. They just so happen to pair perfectly with my dress that I picked up in the M&S sale with a gift voucher I had from my Aunt for Christmas- fortunate that!

I’m not sure what else I can say about this outfit other than “I love it!”. Black and gold is one of my favourite combinations (apologies if you now have that song stuck in your head) and these boots are the kind of thing I’ve been craving for ages- I am bordering on obsessed with ankle boots and this pair is the perfect addition to my collection, never mind that I didn’t exactly NEED another pair!

Have you shopped with Stylist Pick before? I hadn’t, although I did browse regularly. I was really impressed with the range of brands available and the brilliant prices. Deliver was super quick too, always a winner with me!

Prom Queen

Growing up my staple movie diet was the romantic comedy. As was the case of many of the main characters I wasn’t one of the pretty, popular girls and feared that I would never meet my true love, or indeed any love. Fast forward a decade or so and I now know that’s not the case, but back then I thrived on seeing these ugly ducklings transform in to a beautiful swan- most notably at their high school prom. In this post I thought I’d share with you a few of my favourite prom dresses from the films I loved, and still love best.

I found shopping for my prom dresses really hard. Ten years ago (showing my age here!) it was near impossible to find a good selection on the high street, and they were expensive- very expensive! I think both times I needed to get one I ended up buying from Monsoon at great cost, and despite never needing, or wanting to wear the dresses again I ended up keeping them purely because a large chunk of money had been spent. These days the high street is awash with amazing dresses, far prettier than any I saw back then- I wish I could have my time again as I’d happily skip off to somewhere like New Look who have a gorgeous selection and spend the money left over on attempting to glam myself up a bit!
Which movies did you grow up watching? Which one featured your favourite dress? I think my favourite has to be the one in Pretty in Pink- made in the 1980’s I loved pretty much every item of clothing in the film but the prom dress really was a highlight!

Post in association with New Look, however I thought it was a brilliant topic and was eager to take part in writing and sharing!

The Basics

Normally I love getting dressed up and a few years ago I wouldn’t have been seen in jeans, let alone leggings! These days though I find myself looking for any excuse to pop on something 100% comfortable, and what better excuse than the weekend? I’m not sure if this outfit toes the line of how short it’s socially acceptable for a top to be when worn with leggings, but it’s too late now!

Top: New Look | Leggings: New Look (similar) | Boots c/o Duo (Somerset style)

My Duo boots have been an absolute saviour this Winter. Given that I walk the majority of places and it’s really quite cold and wet out most of the time they have done an excellent job at keeping my feet both warm AND dry which is quite something. This outfit was worn for brief trip in to Broadmead to browse the sales with Mum- I’ve been really restrained this year picking up only a couple of things in Primark and a cheeky beauty purchase from Harvey Nichols where I was far too excited to find the Choupette for Shu Uemura range in the sale!
To be honest I’ve otherwise ignored the sales this year, I can’t really afford to splurge and there wasn’t anything I had seen full price that I was hoping would get reduced- with the exception of a couple of shops that is…and for those I’ll continue to live vicariously through others!
Have you picked up any sales bargains this year?
