a break from the brights

Dress, Dorothy Perkins (£7), Tights, Superdrug, Shoes c/o Ellos

As temperatures dipped a little yesterday I took a break from the brighter colours and reverted back to my standard work colour scheme. This dress was yet another mid-season sale bargain and was perfect for keeping the chill out. Rumours are that we’re getting a uniform for work, which suits me fine…that’ll be more money to spend on “fun” clothes and less stress in the mornings over what to wear!

This week has dragged on forever, between hospital visits and general worrying to all round chaos at work, it was fantastic this morning to wake up at the time my alarm goes off and be able to roll over and sleep a bit more.

Here’s hoping for a somewhat less traumatic weekend! I’m going to be visiting my Nan in hospital today, taking with me a childish yet awesome colouring book to keep her busy…and I’m getting prepared to be nagged from the moment I arrive to the moment I leave (a sure sign she’s made improvements over the week!)

What are your thoughts on work uniforms? I think in some jobs it can be essential…where I work, at a doctors surgery, sometimes it’s hard to tell the staff from the patients so I see it as a bonus (as well as the points I mentioned above!)

  1. Bet you stayed warmer than me yesterday, I froze!

I like uniforms for ease and identification but you do tend to loose your identity sometimes. But like you say, it saves you a fortune in having buy suitable clothes for work and more money for the more fun outfits.

Hop your gran feels better, she sound just like mine bless her. If she’s nagging, she’s on the mend.

    Enjoy your weekend hun.

  2. This dress is lovely, and perfect for work. I try to look ‘older’ and more formal when I dress for work to try to create a sense of authority/adultness xx

  3. Great dress, love the shoes too!

  4. I would love a uniform for work! I work from home so often now that I seem to have lost the ability to put together a corporate outfit on the days I have meetings. Cute dress, lady. X

  5. I love that you paired blue and brown in this outfit!

  6. That dress is really nice, what a great bargain for £7! Like you say at least a uniform will save you money and saves deciding what to wear each morning!

  7. I’ve always thought a uniform keeps you in check and definitely distinguishes work from play, it’s easy to throw on and it makes dressing the rest of the time so much of a treat! xxx

  8. I love this dress so cute!

  9. One of the things that suprises me a lot in america is how in some stores, like big supermarket like stores there isn’t a set uniform, they just have a colour they have to wear for a top and that’s it. It makes it look a lot less formal and more relaxed which I like. The uniform we had for Boots was awful – those white tops are totally non breathable and the zips always broke in trousers but because they came from the company they wouldn’t replace them too often. I always think that’s the down side to uniforms – because you don’t own them you can’t through them away or replace it easy because it all comes out of the budget.

  10. that dress is gorgeous! I love Dorothy Perkins’ mid-season sales, I always find something I love x

  11. Nagging is always a good sign, I hope your Nan is up and about soon.
I think a uniform is a great idea. I work in a very informal office and can wear what ever I like (sometimes a duvet is VERY tempting!), but I have wondered about a self imposed dress code for work, it would certainly save me doing the ‘what shall I wear today?’ dance that I do every morning!

  12. I love this dress! What a bargain at £7!

  13. I hope your nan is ok. The colouring book sounds great fun! You loook great, this is a lovely dress!

  14. I love that dress, there are some great bargains to be had in Dorothy Perkins. Hope your granny is doing better x

  15. Being a nurse I have a uniform. Advantages are cost, ease and time. Disadvantages it’s unflattering, has no personality and is never right for the weather.

I keep home and work lives separate so having a uniform goes some way to reinforcing those boundaries.

Hope your grandmother enjoys her colouring.
