Seasonal opulence

Black, beige and brown remain the most popular clothing colors in the colder months. Not only are they easy to combine, but they are also well suited to the season. Therefore opt for studs- rubies, sapphires and opals work well.

Say No To Patterns

One of the worst things that you can do when trying to achieve a chic aesthetic is to layer lots of different patterns and colours together, this is far too eye catching and jumbled to even hint at sophistication. Avoid prints altogether where possible, experimenting only with simple stripes or a basic animal print on one small section of your outfit (such as your top) to identify whether these patterns can match with the block colour items in the rest of your wardrobe.

Accessories Add Value

The accessories that you wear can transform your outfit completely as soft and delicate clothing is taken to a whole new level with the accompaniment of a gold or silver jewellery set. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings are all great extras to add to your chic style as there are so many statement pieces embellished with glistening diamonds or even more kitsch floral shaped sets too. Even a good pair of designer cat eye glasses can take your outfit to a whole new level, so it’s a good idea to explore a relevant website or two in order to identify what’s truly on the market right now.

Find The Balance

Though you may wish to dress the part every single day, sometimes it just isn’t possible. Finding the balance between über sophistication and complete casual may seem impossible, but even if this means substituting one item then this can really be of benefit. For example, wearing a sleek women’s suit dress with a statement necklace falling over the collar of your shirt would fit perfectly with a new pair of cute tennis shoes or other similar trainers. This can help you to avoid being overdressed, as well as help to keep control of your budget too!

Revamping your wardrobe to achieve a chic and sophisticated style has never been so simple when you are able to make the most of the top tips and tricks detailed above! Start off by getting rid of any garish patterned clothing, as this can be too eye catching and make for a jumbled and confusing outfit. Stick with basic block colours, and add extra features by experimenting with accessories such as glasses and jewellery. Make sure that you find the right balance!

Choosing The Right Earrings To Accentuate Your Look*

Have you ever wondered why some people look just stunning when they wear earnings? Well, it is, in fact, a mix of two things. The first of the quality of the piece of jewellery itself, while the second is that the person that is wearing them knows precisely how to style them properly. The good news is that you can discover how to pick and style earrings to match and enhance the outfit you are wearing. Keep reading for more.

Consider your neckline

First of all, when it comes to choosing jewellery consider the neckline of your clothes. For example, if you are wearing a round neck or turtleneck then longer earrings may not be the best option. Instead, look for button and stud styles that do not extend past the ears.

However, with dresses or tops that have less material around the neck and shoulders, such as halter necks or V neck a longer earring extended down can look very elegant.

In a similar vein the way you style your hair can have a significant impact on how good earring looks too. For example, if you wear your hair down and long studs are the better option. Whereas if you are sporting a more sophisticated updo longer earrings with a drop can work particularly well.

Team simple earrings with patterns and vice versa

If you are a person that adores patterned fabrics in bright colours then it is best to opt for a much more straightforward style of earring. In particular look out for unadorned studs or hoops in silver, or even made from non-traditional material like acrylic. An oversized acrylic earring worn with a patterned dress done right can have kitsch and quirky quality that is quite wonderful.

However if you tend towards more solid colours and structured pieces then you do have the opportunity to embrace a little more excitement with your earning choice. With a simple monochrome outfit, an adornment such as these large diamond hoop earrings can give you just enough additional pizzazz to pop. Yet not so much that they throw your outfit off of kilter.

Tones and colours

Lastly, do not forget that it’s not just the colours and hues we wear that we need to carefully consider when choosing earrings, but also our skin tone as well.

For those of us with cooler undertones aerating in metal such as silver, white gold and platinum will work best. Gems on the other hand should be in anything with a blue hue or undertone, including toned blue reds and purples, pinks and greens.

However, for those of us with warmer undertones yellow gold, rose gold and copper are the better choices. While gem colours need orange undertones including yellow, red, orange and pink.

Of course lucky ones with more neutral undertones have a choice between both types. Also earrings with clear stones such as diamonds will work with most metals and most skin tones too. Just as long as you consider, the other factors discussed above.

A Girl Can Never Have Too Many Watches*

Watch gifted by Nordgreen.com

Happy Easter Monday everyone! What a strange long weekend it has been, but a welcome break, and such glorious weather! Although it’s been sad not to spend the holiday with family, Bob and I made the best of it and cracked on sorting our garden out (well, he did most of the work), as well as spending some quality time in the sunshine on my beloved deckchair.

That’s not the point of this post though, the point is my new watch…
I do own quite a lot of watches, more than one for every day of the week, but that doesn’t stop me falling in love with new ones; I just can’t resist them. I was the same once with earrings, and then tights, and then shoes…now my collection of all of these things is lacking, but my time-telling wrist-wear stash is still growing, and growing strong.

The most recent addition to my collection comes from a brand called Nordgreen, who kindly gifted me their “Native” style watch in a gorgeous gunmetal colour.
I love the tough vibes this watch gives off, it goes so perfectly with my current dress style. The biggest win for the watch is how easy it is to adjust the strap size; often with this style I have to take it to the local watch repair shop to get it adjusted, but Bob managed make this the perfect fit for my oddly small wrists in seconds.
The other big win is that the straps on Nordgreen watches are interchangeable, meaning you can create a custom piece super easily (and you get a discount when you add one or two additional straps to your order.

You can also choose the watch diameter and strap width- I went for the smallest in each to create a more feminine looking piece. This watch is a unisex piece- and I’d be tempted to create a mid-range size one for Bob and I to share.

The ethics of the Nordgreen brand are admirable. For each watch purchased you can choose from one of three causes to give back to. The brand ethos is quality, sustainability and putting others first and I think they nail it. A danish brand created by lifelong friends- there is an unmistakable Scandi minimalism about their products, yet the attention to detail and craftsmanship is second to none.

What are your little clothes or accessory obsessions? And what have you been up to over the long weekend?

Beauty from Within with ION8*

Water Bottle [gifted]

If you’ve read any of my more recent posts you’ll know I’m determined to overhaul my woeful skincare routine and get myself in to good habits. Of course, it’s not just what you put on to the outside that matters…one of the key components to glowing skin is staying hydrated, and this is where I fall down big time.

I drink plenty throughout the day, but it’s all caffeine and never water. I’m trying to change this as much as I am trying to change my laziness at removing makeup and finding a small, portable and environmentally friendly water bottle I can carry with me everywhere was a good starting point.

This 350ml leakproof water bottle from ION8 (£10.99) fits the bill nicely. It also comes in a 500ml size for £11.99 but I find the smaller bottle more practical; it fits in my handbag and therefore I’m more likely to include it in my daily essentials. The bottles come in several gorgeous pastel shades, and would make great gifts come the festive season.

It’s a pretty little bottle too, with it’s frosted finish and smooth opening mechanism that then locks tight when you’re done drinking. I’ve been using this for the last couple of weeks and I’d say I’ve remembered to fill it/drink from it 75% of the time- from someone that is usually found necking a can of pepsi max every couple of hours this is quite big progress; luckily we have a water cooler at work too so I can get easy re-fills throughout the day.

Does anyone have any tips for drinking more water? Leave them in the comments below.
