What Katie Drew

So, by now you’ve all seen my new header, right? It was created by the wonderful Katie who In her own words says:
“I’m an illustrator & designer based in NE England.  I was born in Edinburgh and studied animation before choosing to focus on illustration. I’m currently in my third and final year of Illustration & Design at Sunderland University and i’m looking forward to graduating and getting out into the big wide world”

Her work includes these stunning animal creations, including the cutest kitty pet portrait (when we get a new cat, I’m totally commissioning her)

Katie’s talents don’t stop there though…she created these gorgeous pictures for my blog as well as my new header, which I challenged her to do with very vague ideas of what I actually wanted!

This sketch is by Katie’s equally talented friend, Jamie.

Fancy some artwork of your own? Katie has an etsy shop; although currently it is fairly empty, this is going to change, soon!

You can also drop her an e-mail on katiedraws.hello(at)gmail.com with specific requests…she’s really very friendly so don’t be shy!

What do you think? I’ve never been drawn before so it was surreal to see myself in a 2D form. A massive thank you to Katie; I promise not to pester you too much!

Fun with a Fiver

Some weeks ago I was contacted by the lovely Michelle from the charity YouthNet asking if I’d like to be involved with a project they were via TheSite.org

They are hosting a competition on their facebook page where people tell them what they would do with a fiver (£5) and to kick it off they wanted to enlist some bloggers,
so along with other fab bloggers such as MJ and Kavita I hopped on board!

The challenge involved creating something with a fiver and sending it on to the person next in the chain, in return you received what the person before you had created.

The person before me happened to be Kavita

I picked up my parcel on Saturday and here is what she made (I am so in awe of her skill!)

I am actually in LOVE.

It’s been really interesting to see how creative people get, MJ for example made an incredible clutch bag!
I’ll post what I’ve made when Matthew receives it…it was much harder than I thought to create something for a boy, I must admit!

I also found this octopus lurking in the parcel, AMAZING

and don’t forget to check out the facebook page and vote for your favourite creations and get more ideas of what you can do with just five pounds!

The Ants are Coming

Monday Monday Monday,
always rolls around too fast! I’m not down to work Mondays, which is a relief, I don’t think I could handle a working day on the worst day of the week! Actually, I’m only doing 8 hours this week as I have appointments and such…I’d rather be working!

(side note, as I write this there are seagulls outside going mad and flying in to my window, HELP!)

Photobucket

Outfit today is a Vintage floral dress sent by the lovely Alex with a New Look denim shirt, randomly knotted belt and gorgeous tights…I love this colour, Charlotte has great taste in Christmas presents!

Photobucket

This is a really odd photo, but you can see the colours much better!

On top of the mugs I painted yesterday, I also did this plate for my ant obsessed Dad

Photobucket

For this I simply used a ceramic painter pen which doesn’t require oven finishing. You’ll find these in most craft shops in a range of colours and finishes.

For the painting I have this set which is brilliant as it has several paints, a 3D outliner pen and a mug to start you off! I got extra mugs/bowls/etc cheaply at Ikea!

Have a great start to the week xxx

14.12 getting festive

Happy Monday! 11 days till Christmas, who’s ready?
(I’m not!)
How was your weekend? Good, I hope. We now have our decorations up at home, so I thought I’d kick off this post by showing you my mini tree and glittery reindeer.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Actually, the reindeer stays up year round because I’ve become quite fond of it, in it’s sparkly, tacky glory.

I also wanted to show off my new jewellery storage (thanks Mum!), how cute is this?

Photobucket

Not much to update on here, and I’m STILL behind on tags/awards (I promise they’ll be done before the new year!)

Outfit wise, nothing exciting going on, today is all about as many layers as possible

Photobucket

(not pictured, socks, thermal vest and thick cardigan!)

Is anyone making handmade gifts this year? If so, what have you made/plan to make?
I’ve made a few of mine, mainly jewellery,
but have just put together these little treat bags for my parents (from Flash) and a few friends.

Photobucket

Snowballs (a.k.a caramel bonbon sweets)

Photobucket

Reindeer Poo (a.k.a chocolate raisins)

That’s it for now, hopefully I’ll have some better outfits/more interesting happenings to update on next time.

With love,
