Maximum Confidence

So by now we all know what clothes make me feel most insecure…but what about the reverse? What makes me feel confident?

The answer is simple; Maxi Dresses/Skirts.

I’m not sure what it is about them, perhaps something to do with the long length and “swish” when you walk,
but I’ve noticed I always feel most confident when my legs are covered down to my ankles at least.

Being tall, I’m lucky as I don’t drown in the dresses (although look to Nicole Richie to prove shorter girls can rock them too). I love my shorter dresses but they often end up being *too* short or not sitting where they should. I never have that problem with a maxi and that is also part of it’s charm.

This particular dress was sent to me before Christmas by the lovely folk at Matalan and I’ve been saving it for a sunny day.

  2. You can really pull of a maxidress ! LIKE!

Hmm, leggings and a dress makes me feel the most comfortable ! πŸ™‚

  3. Hiya the dress looks lovely.

I am quite short so can never wear ankle length dresses!

I think the clothes that I feel most secure is leggings/opaques and a dress or just a dress but I prefer shorter dresses with leggings and maybe knee length dresses with bare legs.

    I love dresses. xx

  4. what a gorgeous maxi! i want the summer to come, soon.

  5. you look gorgeous in that dress!
I still need to find the perfect maxi skirt.

  6. clothing that makes me feel confident are prolly dresses, leggings and cardigan! i can never show my elbow! it makes me feel….i duno maybe the scars πŸ™ and its a must to wear at least a quarter long sleeve! i cant get away with tshirts cos the sleeves are too short πŸ™

  7. what a pretty dress. I wore my blue maxi dress today! I feel very lady like in my maxi. Not sure what it is… but makes me feel very girly.

  8. i love ur maxi dress but i love ur necklace even more ^^ and i like ur hair :3

  9. nice dress; and I too have a problem with dress sizes, being tall means I can’t rock mini-skrits/dresses; and finding maxi dresses that are long enough is a pain….. argh!!!

    xx

  10. What a gorgeous dress! I love the sleeves!

  11. Ahh you look lovely! I love maxi dresses too but can be hard to find ones long enough when you’re tall!

Don’t talk to me about clothes coming up short, I have my new New Look – TALL – dress on today and when I bend slightly I’m sure I’m showing my bum – gah!!!

  12. You look great in this dress! I can’t pull off maxi dresses, as although I’m tall, I’m too curvy and just end up looking preggers, boo! x

  13. Zee

Gorgeous dress – you look lovely πŸ™‚ I’m VERY tall (over 6ft) and feel like maxi dresses make me look so much taller, which I don’t really want or need!

I feel most confident in baggy hoodies and skinny jeans… not the most flattering things really :S

  14. You look incredible! I love this silhouette on you, I wish I had your lovely long legs πŸ™‚ I like things that are fairly formfitting and end at about my knee, I am an hourglass shape and I need the definition! πŸ™‚

  15. Such a pretty dress. I have the same one, and you’re rocking it really really well! Love it on you.

  16. Well don’t you look stunning. Seriously, this is an absoloute winner on you – it falls beautifully, and I’m impressed with matalan’s design! I’m not really sure what makes me most confident 2bh…it varies day to day, I tend to favour high waists, and definitely nothing tight – i’m championing baggy chic!

  17. Such a gorgeous dress, dresses in general make me feel confident everytime I’m in a pair of trousers (which is very rare occurence) I just don’t feel comfortable xoxo

  18. This is a great post Laura. It’s so easy to say what clothing makes you feel insecure, but people never say what makes them feel confident. Maxi dresses look great on you, i feel they make me personally look short & stumpy though πŸ™ gorgeous xx

  19. Gorgeous dress! Really suits you… I struggle too as my inside leg is 33″ I even find maxi dresses hard as they aren’t always long enough and I’m not that tall – just have the long legs but do find short dresses too short – but think short suits me more than long. I’d say my woolly tights for confidence πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Not sure what I’ll do in the summer though πŸ™‚ ƸӜƷ Deb ƸӜƷ

  20. OHhh that dress is GORGEOUS!
    and you look great!

Every maxi dress I’ve ever worn hangs somewhere in my mid-calf region, I guess I’m too tall for them!

  21. I ADORE maxis! I feel most confident in high-waisted skirts πŸ™‚

  22. Oh very nice Laura, glad it is making you feel good! I struggle with maxis just being a touch too short and looking silly. Will need to check out Matalan and see it theirs are a better length. x

  23. Look over at my blog… lengths on the talk there too. Funny! Also funny that I feel the most confident in short hem lines. They feel the most ‘me’.

  24. love the dress, and that bumblebee necklace is so cute – where is it from!?
i think that a lot of dresses have been waay too short recently in the shops, but i’m not all that comfortable in maxis, as i always feel fat and frumpy in them πŸ™

  25. That dress is stunning, the maxi definitely is your dress.
Your hair looks so lovely too xx

  26. Very… medieval? I love maxis – they make me feel v sophis (even though I do tend to trip over them)! x

  27. I live in maxis as well you know! I’m not hugely tall but I never have a problem getting them to fit.
That one looks beautiful on you. xxx

  28. What a lovely dress!

  29. Oh wow, I LOVE that dress!!

  30. That dress was made for you hun you look amazimg love the print and shape and you hair looks gorgeous in these pics really suits the whole look.

Mine has to be shorts my legs look better when fully exposed lol. xoxo

  31. Matalan sent me the same dress – isn’t it lovely?! I too am waiting for a sunny (and hopefully warmer!) day to wear it!

  32. Oooh, I like it! Love the sleeves, love the v-neck, love the shades, love the floatiness and love the length!
Also like maxis but experience the same problems as other tall girls above, however, Asos is a great help in that respect!
I feel confident in empire line clothing, sleeves that aren’t too tight, long-skirts cut on the bias, usually going outwards (not pencil/tight)-princessy-style, v-necks and wide-legged trousers, ideally flared!

I love your necklace! Am so jealous, my friend has the gorgeous, gorgeus Alex Monroe bumble-bee you featured on your blog! I was like, “Isn’t that Alex Munroe?!”

  33. love this dress!! I know how it is to be pale πŸ™ sunshine needed!

  34. You look so good in it, so elegant and princess-like πŸ™‚ xx

  35. Lovely dress, it looks gorgeous! You’re very lucky to have the height to pull on maxi dresses. I feel most confident in knee-length dresses- not too short, but not too frumpy! Add opague tights, matching cardie and fun jewellery and i’m good to go!

  36. That maxi is beautiful. I am a big fan of the maxi as well. I have to be careful of some styles though as I am so short some kind of drown me in material.

  37. Oh wow that’s beautiful. I love the sleeves and I totally know what you mean about the swish factor of long skirts and dresses.

I dunno what’s going on with dress lengths at the moment though. There are plenty that I find too short on me and I’m only 5’2!

  38. love you in that maxi dress, its a beautiful dress!
I guess I feel more confident in jeans than anything else.
    Great post!

  39. That dress looks great. And I am happy to be a pale lady!! lol.
I think my 50’s style dresses make me feel confident. I know they suit my shape, I never worry that I look fat in them, I’m always at my happiest in them, thats why I want more!
