The January (2016) Degustabox

Welcome to my second Degustabox review of 2016! Not too far removed from the previous box this also contained some healthier bits and bobs, perfect for anyone still on the healthy eating wagon (which I can quite firmly confirm I am no longer). It was still a very appealing box to me though, with some old favourites and new discoveries combined.
The loot! I didn’t know where to start…
Jordan’s country crisp holds quite sentimental memories for me and is also my achilles heel when it comes to cereal. Once I have a box in my possession it’s never going to last more than a couple of days so my eyes lit up when I saw this box- sadly though I realised it’s a fruit and nut mix which I can’t eat. Ben’s been enjoying this though and now I’ve remembered how much I love this I’m going to have to buy myself a box asap (the raisin variety is my favourite!). Carob fruit syrup (by Clarks) is a new one on me and I’m not yet sure where I stand on it. I didn’t like it added to a cup of tea but I am going to try baking with it and will report back on the results.
I’m not a fan of fruit juices as a rule but every so often I really fancy apple juice icy cold from the fridge. This little bottle by Coldpress is made with golden delicious apples and contains more nutrients and Vitamin C than traditional juices thanks to it’s cold pressed nature. This is really a lovely juice and one I can see myself buying again in the future- I don’t mind paying a bit more for juices when I have them so infrequently. The Rose Lemonade by Fentimans is a bit of an “in thing” on instagram and with bloggers I suspect because it just looks so damn pretty. I wish I could say it tastes as good as it looks but my palette just didn’t get on with it at all. Clearly I do not have trendy tastebuds.
I’m always on the look out for healthy snacks, especially things I haven’t tried before. I really rate these Fit Fit Bars made from fruit and nuts. Perfect for stashing in your handbag for snacking on the go and really very tasty. I loved the apricot one! Raw chocolate (by Conscious Chocolate) has been on my to try list for ages. Raw, organic, vegan and smooth- it sounds like it shouldn’t work but really it does. The Plain Jane bar was very much enjoyed by me.
I’ve been cooking a lot more since moving so I was excited to try out the sauces from Amoy. Asian food is a favourite of mine (second to Italian) and the Malaysian Laska was delicious! I’ve made my stance on Slim Noodles quite clear in the past so I won’t dwell on these, I do think they are a good idea for some people though, they certainly have a place on the shop shelves.
I’ve raved about Yushoi’s snapea snacks before on the blog and I’m still loving them. I actually buy these regularly from Tesco and struggle to eke them out over more than two days. They might look a little odd, with a green tinge but they are really very tasty and quite filling too so good for a mid-afternoon munch. Finn Crisp are also a brand I am firmly fond of and their original crisp breads are especially good topped with cream cheese and smoked salmon, yum!
If you’re persuaded to give Degustabox a go (and really, you should) you can claim a brilliant £6 off of your first box by entering the code 5M2R7P at the checkout. It’s been a pleasure to work with the brand one and off over the last couple of years and it’s without a doubt something that I will continue to purchase long after our partnership ends. I love the monthly surprise and excitement as well as the chance to discover products I’d otherwise pass up on the supermarket shelves.

  2. I love Jordan’s cereals, but have recently started making my own granola! Super easy. I also recently purchased the Clark’s carob syrup and have been using it in my coffees instead of sugar – it’s also great for baking. I must say that I love Fentimans’ packaging and their cola is lovely. I’ve got a large bottle of the rose lemonade in the fridge for Valentine’s Day, but we’ve never tried it before, so I hope we like it! The FitFit snacks and the Conscious Chocolate sound good! xxx
