28.12 the inbetween days

I might be in the minority here, but I LOVE the days between Christmas and New Year almost as much as the main event itself.
It’s one of the few times a year I find myself full able to relax and take life at a slower pace, indulging in things I can never usually settle to do, like read during the day and not constantly have that feeling that there is something I MUST be doing.

I’m becoming less sore from falling, so walks are on the agenda before the snow returns. Looking out my window now I can see bright blue skies, and the air is crisp and clean.

When it comes to outfits I find myself opting for jeans and simples tees over my usual dresses and tights,
My makeup also becomes more neutral as for a rare few days I become more comfortable with how I look.

I’ve decided I’m going to stay in this New Year. My parents have friends over, who I know and like, so I will catch up with them and also watch the DVDs I was given for Christmas (The September Issue and Coco before Chanel). I’m not a big party person and find night time socialising exhausting,
Again, that might make me a bit…odd, but it’s just how I am.

What will you be doing for NYE? Have you made your resolutions yet? I’ve not yet decided on mine, but have got a couple in mind.

  2. It’s great to just be relaxed and laid-back once in awhile. I want a nice quiet New Year’s eve this year.

  7. that’s a very laid back outfit…you look great sweetheart. 🙂 am stayin in on NYE as well….you’re not alone! :)) Am scared of firecrackers..arrgh. hhihihi!

    Happy New YEar in advance!!

  8. You got BOTH The September Issue and Coco before Chanel as presents? That is so great, I an yet to see them… Have to fix that soon!
And may I say, your relaxed look is one of your best. I love the white tee/relaxed jeans/red accent combination.

  9. I’m agree with you, these days are the most relaxing of the entire year.

  10. i wish i could be relaxing just now, sadly there is too much schoolwork to be done! 🙁
    loooove your outfit.

  11. love your jeans, great wash!

I kind of hate NYE, I never do anything and never really want to do anything haha

  12. hey gorgeous,

with or without make up you are beautiful.

I am very much a party person but always spend new years eve with my loved ones.

Guess what I did today? I was by the pool in my frilly bikini writing my new years resolution. One list called body and soul: its promises regarding how I look and feel such as drink more water (I can go days without drinking water- i drink so green tea instead). One list under work: what I plan to do career wise and one list called improvement: like I want to be fluent in Russian;)

miss you and so glad you are having a peaceful time.

    Den xoxo

  13. love ur outfitt girl !
    xx

  14. I know what you mean, it really is a lovely relaxing time. Last year I stayed in and played Trivial Pursuits with my parents, and honestly it was one of the best NYE’s ever! That’s so sad 😀 Normally I love going out and socialising but something about New Year just makes it not very fun. All that pressure that you MUST be enjoying yourself so much! This year I’m going to a friend’s fancy dress party, the theme is ‘Your New Year’s Resolution’ so I shall have to get thinking! Glad you had a lovely Christmas, your pics are fab xx

  15. I’m usually a girl who only wears dresses too – but I must admit, this outfit looks fabulous on you, I really love the simple and complimentary colours…it looks chic and comfy!

I too will be staying in on New Year’s Eve, but I’ll be at my house in France which I can’t wait to get back to…I’m hoping I’ll be able to have a dip in the pool at midnight or run down to the beach, but I’m perfectly happy to spend it by myself!

Although I enjoy the in between days, I find them hectic as I try to get everything done before going back to work! I am very fond of the 30th though… my birthday!

You look laidback and lovely! 🙂

  35. I never got round to seeing the chanel film in the cinema, hope it’s good!

  40. I don’t like the days between christmas and new years, they’re too hectic! Oh and my birthdays at the beginning of January so I’m always busy haha 🙂 great outfits! ♥

  41. yes i totally hear you on the relaxation!
hope you are reading something delightful.

  42. share the love… I really dont like these days…

    *sighs*

  43. Love your casual outfit! Haven’t made my resolutions yet I’m afraid! As for NYE, I’m going dancing with friends! 🙂

  44. I actually love the days in between too! I’m not sure what I’m doing for NYE yet though..so that’s a little stressful but I’m enjoying being on vacation from work. You look so cute! I love wearing jeans and a T too 🙂

  45. you are so pretty!

I’ll be doing the same on New Years Eve. I partied plenty in my early 20s, now I’m just tired. Sounds sad, but I’m looking forward to just hanging out and falling asleep early.

  46. I’ve got about a million New Year Resolutions all written out and ready for completing:D
One of them is to try and enjoy life even in the bad times.

Girl you are sooo lucky to have that Coco movie to watch New Years Eve:) I would love to have something that juicy to watch!

    I like your necklace:)

    xoxo

i wanted september issue for christmas too, but it’s not out here til mid jan =[

new years, my boyfriend and I have a restaurant reservation for right over the harbour at the early fireworks, and I bought a gorgeous dress today (just posted actually).

I’ll probably spend midnight watching tv with my boyfriend, I’m not big on going out either.

Not many resolutions yet, just the general “be healthier” stuff…

    xx

  51. I feel the same way about socialising and partying. I don’t think you’re odd! Or if you are, we’re both odd 😛
But I’m definitely an introvert and I think I’ll be staying in this NYE, too 🙂

  52. ^^ thanks 🙂
I do too, love the days between the holidays ! There is something special about them
Oh , love this outfit ! the jeans are supercool- you totally pull them off !!
    Happy New Year (/soon)

  53. I dontknw what I’ll be doing on new year’s eve 🙁 Love your necklace!!

  54. Love this blue color of your jeans, so calming!

  55. Nothing like being relaxed and casual.

I think I’m going to go a friend’s high rise and watch fireworks for New Year’s. It’ll beat spending the night all alone! 🙂

  57. oh you are not “odd” at all, darling! I am with you on these. I love the “inbetween” days, too, because I have time for things I love. I read and just hang around and don’t feel the urge to go out and do something. I am not a party person either, so we share a lot of things it seems! :)) me and my bf will stay at home for NYE, baking cookies and drinking champagne 🙂
have a lovely week & happy new year to you.
    much love, susan xxx

  58. Not to worry cos’ you look good in anything. I would be resting at home on NYE. I decided on some very high expectations of myself and will see if i can keep to it.

  59. cute top & jeans never go out of style! love the light wash jeans girlie!

    have a fun new years!!

  60. You are so cute when you are casual! And it sounds like you recieved some fabulous Christmas presents! I am dying to see The September Issue. 🙂

  61. Amazing, Laura: I just posted & said basically what you just said, only you said it better (& with less words). No excuse, but I’ve also got a head cold, which means it takes me longer to say what I’m thinking which is:

I LOVE this period between Christmas & New Year’s, and for the same reason. I’m not even replying to friends’ emails & things, but I had to stop by & say thank you! I hadn’t mentioned it sooner but I love the necklace & the way you wrapped it and the card. So thoughtful. When I finally upload my photos, I plan to take a shot or two of the whole packaging & present & will post on it. But for now.. more tea. Oh and just rented The September Issue (2nd time for me, I wanted my husband to see it – he loved it!) & I loved Coco Before Chanel. So I’m curious to hear your thoughts!

Will write you a proper email when I’m not feeling so lazy. Lucky you, staying in: as you’ll see on my post, I don’t like going out that night, either. But our plans are the next best thing: a sleep-over with lovely, easy-going friends, in what sounds like a beautiful house.

No resolutions yet, apart from re-writing the end to my first screenplay that I wrote years ago, and writing another which I think will be the one that actually becomes a film. What are yours?

  62. I love this simple outfit…and the jeans look so chic on your gorgeous long legs 🙂

    Cheers: Evi

  63. I’m so glad I’ve finally found someone who doesn’t like clubbing and partying all that much. I’m a big homebody and hate all the NYE party requests I get. I love my friends, but like you, I get exhausted too. I really do love this outfit though, it’s gorgeous and you’re right, very neutral and pretty 🙂 Thanks for your comment btw, I love the guinea pig one too 😀 xxx

  64. The look4sunshine comment was from me, my BirdInBlueSky account doesn’t get used unfortunately…xxx

  65. Hi darling! Come to think of it, you are so right about the nice slow pace of these in-between days!

No NYE plans yet except maybe a cocktail with a gal pal… real low key this year, I think. Hope you have a fab New Year’s, gorgeous!

  71. I spent last new year’s eve at home with my boyfriend and a couple friends just playing board games and it was so much fun. I think this year we’re going out though.

  72. I say it’s the best way to celebrate nye! I’m always with the family, could never do it without!

  73. I would totally agree with you about the inbetween days apart from the fact that I have to work! Oh well.

    I hope you’re well.

Not sure about my New Year eve plans, I think it’s really overated!

  74. Normally I love these inbetween days, but alas this year i have to work! Still making the most of it with post work trips to the sales, and ‘finishing off’ all the xmas food and champagne! For time not at work comfy outfits are a must – I love yours, though I am afraid I am mainly sticking to my pjs!

  75. Have a great relaxation at home! Should be more often this time of the year, right? 😉

We invited people for New Years Eve…we gonna have nice dinner….and also same baby’s in the house 😉

    Happy New Year!

  76. I’m loving your outfit, it looks so comfy and carefree, ultra sweet.

I’ll be spending NYE at home also with family and friends and we are already planning a huge meal and all.

I love staying in for New Years Eve 😉 nice and relaxing!

  78. i am usually sad when xmas is over for some reason… But i understand ur reason for liking it and i hope that these ‘rare’ days will no longer be rare! (maybe that could be a resolution?)
But i understand that is hard to feel comfortable with how you look, i am having difficulty with that myself (uncomfortable with how myself look not you i mean…)

  79. But just reading these comments must give u confidence!!!

  80. Happy New Year to you! I haven’t really decided what I’m going to do, but I got a DVD set of Woody Allen movies, and I’m planning to tear into them this week 🙂 Maybe a little bubbly with my husband to round out the New Year. Just a quiet one this year, I think.
