reasons I am not a beauty blogger

A few weeks ago find-me-a-gift.co.uk got in touch asking if I’d like to review a couple of makeup products.
I love makeup, a few years ago I went through a phase where it was my “thing” and built up quite a collection. Since then I have shamefully become lazy and fallen out of the loop so I thought this might be a good oppurtunity to get some of that love back. I think this post proves I still have a long way to go!

Apologies for the shocking photos that are to follow (reason number one why I am not a beauty blogger/you should always read your camera instructions)

I was sent The Balm Makeup- Hot Mama Blush/Eyeshadow, £14.99 which is a gorgeous rose gold colour hideously portrayed by my less than amateur photographing. The colour payoff on this is amazing and as a pale girl the colour really compliments my complexion; as an eyeshadow it doesn’t work for me, the pink makes me look like I have sore eyes, but I am confident it will look stunning on people who wear pink eyeshadow well and the texture is a dream.

I also recieved The Balm Bronzer Powder Compact- Betty Lou Manizer, £17.99. Reason number two why I am not a beauty blogger is that I have never in my life tried Bronzer before; I am infact scared of it.
As with Hot Mama the texture of this is a dream, an utter dream, and the colour pay-off is impressive; the photo above is one gentle finger swipe worth of colour! It was trial and error getting this to work for my beyond the pale skin but with a light hand and some careful buffing I think I managed admirably for a first attempt

(And here’s reason number three why I am not a beauty blogger, the faces!)

I think both of these products will really come in to their own once I have had the benefit of some Spanish sun to lessen the bright whiteness of my skin; most of the time I love being pale, but sometimes I find it really, really hard work! That aside I really rate these products, and the colour payoff, retro packaging and luxury feel makes them worth every penny of their price tag.

Have you tried The Balm before?

And PLEASE PLEASE give me bronzer/general makeup advice!

  1. I like the look of these. Despite being a “beauty blogger” I’m not much of a fan of bronzer myself! X

  2. Hi Laura,

I’m like you. Very pale and previous attempts at using bronzer made me look Tango’d.

I follow Sali Hughes on Twitter (@salihughes) and she recently posted a great video on how to apply it correctly.

    Hope it helps 🙂

  3. Make up really bloody scares me sometimes. I’m still only using it on my eyes and im nearly 30 now… lol

  4. You are far too harsh on yourself! I think you have showcased the products really well on yourself 🙂 x

  5. I am also scared of bronzer, I’m about as pale as you and I’m convinced I’ll just orange and/or gold! It actually looks lovely on you though, now I feel like I should give it a go :/

    xo

  6. First rule of bronzer club, you don’t talk about bronzer club. Hold up, wrong rule book . . 😉 Seriously, bronzer should be lightly applied to the parts of your face that stick out and naturally catch the sun; so your nose, chin, cheekbones and forehead. Same applies to putting it on your body; shoulders, decolletage, thigh and shin bones. But hey, you look great here so it looks like you got this down! I love The Balm stuff, never had anything I didn’t like!

  7. The comment above made me chuckle. But totally agree you’ve got the bronzer look down, you look gorgeous

    xx

  8. I have a blusher by The Balm and love it.
I don’t use bronzer, like yourself being so pale just makes it scary!
You have, however, pulled it off pretty damn well! x

  9. I think this looks very pretty and you have given me all the info and photos i need for this product.. so you did good 🙂

  10. I’m pretty rubbish when it comes to make-up, but playing around with a few new shades is always fun! xxx
