Seventies Style

Ever since it became apparent that the fashion world was shifting away from skinnies I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect pair of flared jeans. I searched all over the high street but eventually ended up back at my original starting place, as is so often the case. I’m not usually one to jump on to a trend bandwagon but the Summer Seventies revival has got me, completely got me. I have a huge yearning to fill my wardrobe with floaty maxi dresses, a-line mini suede skirts and bell bottoms galore.

Jeans: Mango at ASOS (dark wash version) | Top: New Look | Ring c/o Hazel and Kent

It has been a long time since I last owned a pair of Mango jeans and I had forgotten just how much I rate the brand for denim- I find it suits my height and build perfectly, where other brands don’t seem to. It was love at first sight when I saw this 70’s flared pair on ASOS for a mere £22, they have since sold out but I have linked to the indigo version above (next on my list I think!).

I’ve come to realise over the last few weeks that I own very few tops that aren’t basic vests or knits, which makes putting outfits together problematic at times. I saw this gypsy style number in my local New Look and couldn’t resist, it was made for pairing with these jeans and as it also comes in a tan colour I might be going back for another.

I think gold jewellery might have gone with this outfit better but I couldn’t wait to show off this statement silver ring from Hazel and Kent (a brand I discovered through the e-tail PR blogger network). I can’t find the exact style on the website anymore but there are similar styles available for under a tenner- such a bargain for such a statement, high quality piece!

All I need now is some platform sandals for when the weather warms up and this outfit is good to go, I’m dying to get out of ankle boots and (on a good day) trainers…come on weather, it’s time to let me free those feet!

  1. These jeans look amazing on you, hope you had a lovely weekend.

  2. Such a lovely outfit, you look great!

Flares definitely don’t suit me, but I think I’ll have to search out that top, it looks so floaty and summery!

  3. You look beautiful here, 1970s style really suits you!

  4. Now THIS is a brilliant outfit – it suits you so well! I am so adoring those jeans on you. I’m too short to wear a flare like that; but I do adore them on others!

    xx

  5. I really need to find me a good pair of flared jeans, I do love a big flare. You look lovely as always, is there any style you can’t pull off?

  6. This is a lovely, relaxed look! The ring is gorgeous; I think it goes perfectly with this outfit. xxx

  7. Yes yes! I love flares! I remember when they made a brief comeback about 15 years ago, it’s about time they came back again!

  8. Gypsy tops and flares are meant to be big this year. I have some skinny flares in my wardrobe that I never wear..the problem with skinny flares is you need to wear them with heels and I don’t wear heels much. I think I will stick to my skinnies! I love a gypsy top though I wore them all the time when they were in fashion many years ago x

  9. Omgosh, I LOVE this top! So boho. You can’t beat some statement finger candy!

  10. I may always be a big ‘floaty’ topped, maxi dressed, bohemian lover, so when stores & trends allow for it more I am always a happy soul. Jeans & I hmmmm tricky relationship (I blame lack of height) but you look amazing in those, I am very jealous. Stunning top!!

Hope you’ve had a fab bank holiday weekend.

  11. Ah I love this look on you – those jeans are perfect! The weather was so nice today that I actually didn’t choose to wear trainers for once which has been such a rarity!

Hi Lovely, I love this style on you! You look fab!!!

I hope its ok to comment on this as I know you are very open about your past health issues. Is everything ok? I’ve been away from your blog for a while and got a bit of a shock to see how you have lost quite a lot of weight. I do hope you can keep fighting and this message doesn’t offend you. I just care about you and honestly couldn’t beleive how much thinner and more unwelll/fragile you are recently compared to last autumn/summer when u looked glowing and strong. xxx

    • Hi Sarah,

Sure, it’s ok to comment- as you pointed out I have always been open and honest about my past. Things are a bit up and down at the moment (mostly down, clearly) but I’m working to address it and get my glow back!

      Much love x

  13. You look great!! I’m loving the seventies revival too at the moment, everything I find myself looking at seems to be suede and fringed 🙂 xx

  16. I love the jeans. I do like skinny jeans for winter as they fit well with boots, but for summer I love a looser fitting style. The top is gorgeous!

  17. Hey Laura!!! Love this combination. The,jeans are my kind of thing as is the top! I picked up a great 70’s dress in anew vintage shop I discovered today.x

  18. You couldn’t move for flares in the early 2000, i was all about cord ones.
