Oh Deer

I’m all about the Christmas jumper but hadn’t ever put much thought in to the idea of a Christmas dress. All that changed this year though when I saw this dress appear on the Joy Facebook page recently. Suddenly it made perfect sense to own a dress specifically for the festive season and on a recent shopping trip with my Mum and Grandad I was treated to this beauty.

Dress: Joy | Boots: Betty London | Earrings c/o Susan Caplan

Let’s take a moment to appreciate these earrings which I have been wearing to death lately. I used to be all about the earring bling, but since adding to my ear piercing collection over the last couple of years I tend to favour a more simple design and these gold tear drops are the perfect alternative to the silver studs I usually wear and were also perfect to finish off my Christmas party outfit. I actually own a few pieces from the Susan Caplan at ASOS collection as I love the vintage inspired pieces and the bargain prices!
Back to the dress, isn’t it just the cutest? I love the shape of it, and it falls at the perfect length on me. I wore this to see some of my favourite blogging ladies last week at Blog Club hosted at Betties and Baldwins and felt remarkably under-dressed compared to the girls all dressed up in their sequins and sparkles. I do love a good blogging get together though, despite social anxiety kicking in every damn time. 2015 WILL be the year I finally get over that for good.
Have you got a dress you like to wear during the festive season? I’ll be wearing this loads on the run up to Christmas and probably on the day itself…then it will be carefully stowed away with the novelty knits ready to be rolled out again next year…

NYE Dresses- the Luxe Edit

The other big occasion that I know people are gearing up for as I type is New Years Eve. I’m not one for doing anything big or fancy myself, but I know that for plenty of people it’s the biggest night out of the year! Today’s post is a real “in my dreams” kind of thing; a) because I have no swanky invite to get excited about and b) because these dresses are so far out of my current budget that I can only dream of owning them- and dream I will!
The three dresses above all come from Forever Unique who specialise in luxury fashion for all occasions. Right now they have a vast and stunning selection of dresses in stock that just scream NYE, the ones I’ve picked as favourites came as a result of a good hour spent browsing the site and whittling it down!
First up comes this amazing take on the LBD which I am all kinds of in love with. If I was wearing this I’d probably add black tights (to tone down the skin on show and add some warmth!) and accessorise with gold shoes and a gold clutch bag…yep, I’m really enjoying this dress and if I had a spare £275 to my name I would be making it mine.
Next is this champagne coloured fitted dress which I think has a gorgeous vintage look to it. Champagne is clearly the perfect colour to wear for NYE and all you’d need to finish the look would be some delicate sandals and dainty silver jewellery- I’d need to steer clear of any dark coloured drinks though!
Lastly (but most certainly not least) is this festive number which with it’s red and green sequins is the perfect way to see out the festive season in style. It would also make for the perfect Christmas Day dress, made more casual with some flat over the knee boots, but I can really imagine sticking on some killer heels and dancing my way in to 2015 in this!
Have you got plans for NYE yet?

Rockin’ Robin

It’s officially festive knitwear season, which means I can indulge in my love of novelty knits for an entire month without fear of judgement! Last week I had a much needed break from work- it’s a tradition now that Mum and I both take the first week of December off together to get in to the festive spirit and with the timely arrival of a package from Long Tall Sally I took great pleasure in sticking on a totally casual outfit on the first day of December.

Jumper and Jeans c/o Long Tall Sally | Shoes: Converse

I featured this Robin jumper in my #DearSally wish list post and fell head over heels so I was delighted when I was told that I could pick one of the outfits I featured! I’ve also been after some boyfriend jeans for the longest time ever so this was really the perfect choice for me. The jeans are everything I was hoping for, although it’s worth mentioning that it might be worth sizing down as I found they do come up rather big on the waist (nothing that a belt can’t fix as the legs fit how I like them). To finish off I was also sent these super cosy slippers that I featured in my gift guide section of the post. It might not have been the most exciting outfit that I featured but it’s by far the comfiest and the one I’m going to get the most wear from! I get carried away shopping for pieces that I only ever wear once or twice so it’s nice to finally get my mitts on some bits that I’ll actually live in- thanks Long Tall Sally!
Is anyone else going Christmas Jumper Mad? I’m so excited for Christmas Jumper Day at the end of the week- the rest of my workplace perhaps not so much (especially as I’ve extended it over two days to accommodate people who don’t work Friday!)

Christmas Treats from Crabtree & Evelyn

A week in to December and I’m on a roll with my gift ideas…I might be done and dusted with my own shopping (it’s even wrapped up) but I know not everyone is quite so obsessive about getting things done with weeks to spare and I figured a little inspiration might help.

So in the spirit of goodwill to all men here is are a few little gift ideas from the lovely folk at Crabtree & Evelyn who were kind enough to spoil me with a taster of the range for myself…

First up was a rather jolly festive room spray which is perfect for creating a Christmas atmosphere in your home. Full of citrus and spices this is a really love fragrance not just for Christmas, but for all winter long! £12.00 for 100ml.
Next came this rather attractive tin of hand creams which contained three of Crabtree & Evelyn’s best selling hand products; Gardeners Hand Therapy, Rosewater Hand Therapy and La Source Hand Therapy with each 25g tube being the perfect handbag size. With a retail value of £15 and costing £12.50 in a stunning festive tin I think this would make a truly lovely present for your Mum or an Auntie…or of course, for yourself!
Last but by no means least comes my favourite, the festive bauble trio which contains three gorgeously vintage tin baubles to hang on your tree. On their own these would be simply stunning but they are made all the more endearing by the fact that each one contains 55g of fudge! One bauble contains Festive Spiced Fudge, another has Clotted Cream flavour and the third contains a delicious Chocolate Fudge! I didn’t realise that Crabtree & Evelyn did food gifts but if you look on their website you’ll see a huge selection- I’m hoping Santa gets the hint and brings me this Gingerbread Man Tin (I promise I’ve been good all year!)
Have you seen anything that’s caught your eye? How are you getting on with your shopping?

The November Degustabox

Here we are again, it’s time for my monthly round-up of the Degustabox– the ultimate foodie gift box packed full of surprise products that are often brand new to the market! Each month 9-14 items will arrive on your doorstep for the bargain price of £12.99 (far less than the cost of buying each product) and it makes for the perfect festive treat for the foodies in your life.
First up were some products from Holy Cow (£3.38 each)- two authentic Indian curries made from all natural ingredients, no artificial colours/flavours/preservatives, are gluten free and suitable for vegetarians and coeliacs. I’m not a big curry eater but I am impressed with how these look. I’ve handed these over to my spice mad dad to cook up and I look forward to seeing the results. Far more up my street were the Kent’s Kitchen flavour shots, which are the perfect way to jazz up meat or prawns (£1.85 each). I got fajita seasoning in my mix which I can’t wait to cook up and add to salads or tortilla wraps for a slightly different lunch time feast.
BranstonHave had a re-vamp and I was excited to see a Tomato chutney nestled in to my box. I eat a lot of cold, salad buffet style meals and love a dollop of something flavoursome to give it some oomph, this is the perfect way to deliver that hit and they only cost £1.50 a jar. Kettle Chips also featured in the box with their Salsa & mesquite flavour (one of their original flavours), I may or may not have been using these as a tasting vessel for the chutney (rrp £2.19)
Drinks wise there was quite a selection in this month’s box, all of which are new to me, although to be fair most drinks are new to me as I tend to be a creature of habit. The Pip Organic cloudy apple juice contains no added sugars and are made with 100% organic juice, I’m not often a fruit juice kind of girl but apple is the exception to that and this one is really lovely…a bit of a treat at £1.50 per bottle but a lovely indulgence. Cool Dawn (£1.49 per can) is something totally new to me and one I haven’t actually tried yet. It’s a herbal detox drink that helps to prevent a hangover, it’s recommended that you drink one towards the end of a big night and another in the morning if required and whilst I’m not a big alcohol drinker these days I am quite sure these will be on standby over the next few weeks as the festive season kicks off. Finally there was a bottle of Italian cider from Montano which again I haven’t tried- despite my West Country roots I really don’t enjoy Cider. I’ve passed this bottle (rrp £2.79) over to my Dad for his expert verdict, but it certainly looks very swish in it’s elegant glass bottle.
Lindt never let me down and it was brilliant to discover five of their “Lindor My Melting Moment” treats (65p each) nestled in the bottom of the box. Nothing beats Lindt chocolate in my book (chocolate snobs may disagree) and I even managed to save a couple of these to share around, which was tough as they really are excellent.
The box also included a sample sachet of Drink me Chai’s Spiced Chai which is the perfect winter warming drink. Simply add milk or water for an authentic Indian treat, fantastic after a long Winter walk (or a long day Christmas shopping
As a special gift to long-term subscribers and bloggers who have supported Degustabox since day one there was also the inclusion of some Baru Chocolates marshmallows in the box. I’ve been eyeing these up in Waitrose for a couple of months and goodness me they were worth waiting to try, SO good.
Happy First Birthday Degustabox! After almost an entire year of trying the boxes for myself I can hand on heart recommend signing yourself up to receive at least one box for yourself, or as a gift to someone in your life who loves their food. To tempt you further I have a discount code to give you £3 off when you register for your first box, simply at VEK34 at checkout and then anxiously await your first delivery!
