Denim Dreams

I lived in jeans and denim as a teenager, I rarely wore anything but baggy, shapeless numbers or outrageous flares.
During the first couple of years of my twenties I rebelled and refused to wear jeans in any shape or style, or if I did it was because I had nothing else clean. I don’t know why I went off it in such an extreme way but all of a sudden denim didn’t appeal.
Now I’m older, more confident in my style and how I look and I find myself browsing jeans on a regular basis, dreaming of finding the perfect skinny fit or just baggy enough boyfriend style.
I’m on a tight budget, my most recent purchase was a pair of super skinnies from Primark costing a mere £9. They fit nice now but I don’t have high hopes for how long that’ll last. I think the most expensive pair of jeans I own come from Oasis and even then they were under the £50 mark.
With my mission to become healthier well under way I’ve decided that when my body reaches where it needs to be I’m going to splurge on some decent jeans, make the investment and wear them with pride. The right pair of jeans can take you seamlessly from day to night and will never lose their shape or go out of style.
This weekend I spent a while persuing the Trilogy stores website and came up with this little wishlist, which whilst not all denim or jeans does include some investment buys from denim geniuses Current Elliot and fashion favourite Rag and Bone jeans.
What are people’s thoughts on jeans? Something to invest in or a more throwaway fashion?
If you’ve taken the plunge and invested I’d love to know which brands you went for and how it felt to spend so much.
Oh, and if anyone has any denim disasters to share- I’m all for being amused!

  1. I definitely think you should invest in jeans! I find cheap jeans (and even jeans from places like Topshop) go baggy after a few wears and need more washing to shrink them back to their original shape – so they really don’t last.
My favourite jeans at the moment are from Current Elliot, “The Ankle skinny”, mid rise, in a mid blue wash. I love them. They were actually only £85 (from £220) as I bought them from secretsales.com. The Outnet also has lots of reduced designer jeans (although of course hit and miss whether they have your size). Although I didn’t pay full price, I definitely would next time (I plan on getting the same shape in another colour) as they are just so much better than any other jeans I’ve ever owned.

A few years ago I was really into Levis, which also last really well. I like how you can get different waist-hip measurements too (slight curve, demi curve, bold curve), so Levis may be worth a look if you struggle to get a good fit.

  2. I invest in jeans – I cannot stand how shops have replaced traditional denim with jegging-esque material on the whole recently! My favourite jeans cost £38 from Miss Selfridge and actually fit my skinny legs (I have chicken legs, ugh) and my waist at the same time, plus are denim! I pulled on a pair of jeggings-esque DP jeans the other day and they were so soft it was unbearable, haha! Sorry for the ramble, good luck with your jeans hunt x

  3. I love jeans, I wear them every day!xo

  4. Invest in jeans, nothing better than a quality (generally expensive) pair of jeans!

  5. If they fit well they’re absolutely worth investing in! I wear jeans until they fall apart, if they don’t fit well, they don’t stay in my wardrobe for very long. My favourite jeans have actually been from Oasis but Gap are pretty good too.

  6. I live in jeans. Though I’m a cheapskate so an investment to me is a £30 pair! Favourite places for jeans atm are Dorothy Perkins, H&M and Motel during sales

  7. I’d definitely recommend investing in a quality pair 🙂 I am so happy that I did, and I have actually since got a second pair..! I finally found my ‘holy grail’ jeans last year, after much trying on and disappointment with other, cheaper brands. I chose the Molotov Kenta jeans by All Saints, and they are my perfect jeans. They fit perfectly, they stretch perfectly. I can do anything in them and I don’t feel restricted in any way! They are so soft and comfortable, and I’ve washed them many times and they’ve not lost their shape or fit. They were quite a reasonable £85, when I think that I could pay £40 for some Topshop jeans that I’d never be anywhere near as happy with, I’m glad I took the denim plunge! I always check TK Maxx as well, I can usually tell if I’ll like a pair of jeans by stretching the width of the leg, if it gives enough I might try it on. If there’s no give in a pair of jeans, they’re not going to be for me! Good luck in your jean hunt 🙂 xx
