Follow up- Meet Florence and the Machines

You may remember that way back in September I posted about a competition to design Florence’s stage outfit for her performance at the high profile ‘Terminal 5’ in New York.

*original post*

Well, the competition has since ended and I thought I’d do a follow up on the winner and their design.

You can view all the finalists entries here

Florence chose the winner of the Talenthouse.com fashion design competition out of almost 800 entries. The winner got her design created and styled by Aldene Johnson for her stage performance in New York at terminal five. The winner was also flown to NY to meet Florence and see her winning piece styled on her for the show.

Here are some photos of the winning outfit.

What do you think?
Did any of my readers enter the competition? I’d love to see your designs if you did!

Happy Friday

  1. I don’t like it, I much preferred the second outfit out of the finalists, it had much cleaner lines and flowed in a more structured manner.

I think it looks like a trip up waiting to happen, hence I think the reason why Florence has opted for no heels.

I hate to say it but the bodice isn’t particularly flattering either, she looks a little pot bellied and flat chested, looking at her very slim legs in comparison. And, the colour isn’t particularly flattering. And it looks a mess from the back. For once I don’t have a single positive comment. Well, the designer looks happy in the pic.

Interesting that most of the finalists outfits had a similar high leg/flowing arms theme.

  2. oh. um. hmmm. not sure about that. The colour makes her look a bit pasty. not very flattering outfit. Hmmmmm.

  3. The winning design looks a lot better on paper. Did Florence chose the dress herself, because she looks really uncomfortable in the last picture! I don’t think it really suits her, I don’t like seeing so much of her leg in that way, it just looks odd!

  5. I like the capey bit, it’s very Florence, but I have to say I agree I like some of the other finalists work better… I hope they got some sort of runners up prize too!

  6. I love Florence and the Machine. What a great competition! The winning outfit is lovely.

I love Florence! Wicked costume. Performing barefoot is the best.

  9. “Looks a bit pot bellied” “Flat chested” “Too much leg”…..
Get a grip for God’s sake, she ain’t some bloody Page 3 girl, she’s Florence Welch the incredible singer with a strange folky hippy chick way about her. She’s extremely tall and strangely beautiful even though she’s far from perfect. The last picture has her perched ‘off balance’ on the stairs for a quickie, the ‘on stage’ pics are reminiscent of the Moulin Rouge or The Windmill Theatre and I think they are smashing. 😉
