Mind Over Matter

As I mentioned in a previous post or two, yesterday was tattoo day! It didn’t exactly go to plan; Ellie and I were booked in at the tattoo studio in my home town where I’ve been twice before without problem. This time however the tattoist failed to turn up, it had been open in the morning, but when we arrived we found it closed up and no-one could contact the chap. We waited an hour but cut our losses and phoned some other places and ended up racing over to Weston-Super-Mare to Dino’s Tattooist who welcome walk-ins and informed us if we could be there by 4:15pm they’d see us no problems.
As is often the way with Ellie and I, this worked amazingly in our favour. We could not have picked a nicer place to go, with a warm friendly atmosphere and multiple artists working. Sorry local chap, you lost a lot of money and two potentially regular customers…Dino’s is where it’s at!

I had the words “Mind Over Matter” inked on to my left foot. I’m going through a massive period of change right now, one I’ve attempted many times before and never managed to see through. This time feels so right and so different and this phrase is something that has kept me going. Now I have a constant reminder that no matter how impossible it may sometime seem, I can do this, I WANT to do this and there are better and incredbily exciting times ahead.
Eventually I’d like to get my whole foot designed around it, hence the placement. I’m thinking something involving Daisies, but that will be one for the future.

I’m making a point to celebrate every small achievement right now…and I’ve surprised myself at just how many of those there have been.

I am so excited for the rest of my life.

((Yeah, this is one of those cryptic deep and meaningful posts, but many of you will know what it’s all about))

I’d also like to once again thank everyone for the support and cheerleading, especially my long-suffering twitter followers. You are amazing.
Actually, I could write an Oscar speech worthy list of thank yous right now.

What words do you live by?

xxx

P.S. Do you have any idea how hard it is to photograph your own foot? Apologies for the bruised and bloody look of it, I’m limping around like a trooper!

It looks good for being so fresh! I have two quotes that I live by:

“There is no passion to be found in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than what you are capable of living”— Nelson Mandela

“Nemo me impune lacessit” (No one provokes/attacks me with impunity.) I’m not a fighter — I just like to prove mean people wrong.

I would love to get a tattoo as a way to remember this time of my life. I admire you so much for getting one that gives you strength.

‘Don’t wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain’ my friend has that tattooed on her shoulder. I love that quote! Xx

  3. Great story behind the tatt. This is more of a mantra I like to use sometimes but it’s relevant: Every day in every way I am getting better and better..!

  4. I really like this and love the sentiment. I really want a tattoo but have been too scared to make the appointment! When something goes wrong I always think will this matter in 10 years and if the answer is no than I try not to worry so much.

  5. I am so happy that we did it. My “fortaleza” has as much meaning as your tattoo, as you know. It makes me feel so proud and happy to see it 🙂 x

  6. This looks great and you are living proof of how true it is, definitely one of my favourite mantras!

  7. Loving that new tattoo darling & the sentiment behind it – totally go with daisies when you add to it 🙂

Tattoos with meaning are always the best – I’m booking my tattoo appointment to have the tattoo on my foot altered & extended, ideally this week.

    Happy Sunday beauty x

  8. “dont you stand on the shoreline and say you’re satisfied. choose to chance the rapids and dare to dance the tides”

  9. Beautiful – and amazing words to live by. I have “Ad Astra” on my wrist which is Latin for “…to the stars” to remind me to never give up (and essentially shoot for the stars!)

My other favourite quote is the one by Albus Dumbledore no less that says “happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light” x

  10. I’m not really one for quotes myself to live by but I love that yours really does have meaning behind it!

  11. Great quote, this tattoo is really lovely the font is beautiful.

  12. Love the tattoo – my own tattoo cravings are just geting stroger with every post like this I see!

So glad you found a great place to go as well – bad luck to the local guy but that’s what bad service gets!

  13. The reason behind your tattoo is exactly what i’m going through at the moment. I’m applying for jobs that I really want rather than one’s i know i can get because I know that something exciting is just around the corner

    love the tatt

    xoxo

  14. I’m so glad that you feel positive about going through the changes and sticking with it! I’m not totally sure of what exactly you mean but I can imagine from posts in the past, so you keep going!!!!

  15. I love quote tattoos! I’m still tattoooless but I’ve got ideas for so many, I just need to take the plunge!
My favourite quote at the moment is:
‘She turned her can’t into cans & her dreams into plans’ which i have stuck to my mirror!
Good luck with your transition 🙂

  26. youch! But it looks lovely. I love the fact there is a good story behind it, and when you look at your foot you’ll be reminded of how far you’ve come. xx

  27. Hope it heals soon so you can wear all your pretty shoes! I don’t have any tattoos myself, but I do love when people have little tattoos like this that really mean something.xx

  28. It looks great and I love the thought behind it too, I really want to get a tattoo soon – I’ve been saying this since I was 17, still haven’t done it!

I try to live by the sentiment of:

    ‘Forwards ever, backwards never’

    🙂 xx

  29. What a happy/positive post! I always try to live by ‘do as you would be done by’ and while not exactly a saying, I try to see the positive in every negative.

  30. LOVE it. So meaningful!

My guy was an hour late for my last appointment but I later found out his kid was sick. Lucky for him he’s awesome and I had the whole day open. And because I’m so nice I bought him coffee, hehe. However, not cool to just totally not show up!

And yes, I totally know how hard it is to photograph your own foot lol.

  31. Hello my lovely
