Summer Brights

Wallis top, Primark skirt, Dune wedges c/oΒ Sarenza

Summer’s arrival meant Monday I wanted to wear bright colours. Actually, I wore two outfits on Monday (the other to be shown tomorrow) and that was also a bit on the bright side.
This skirt was a Β£5 Primark bargain, a true impulse buy that will probably be a bit of a wardrobe staple. The top was pinched from my mother’s wardrobe (love her!) and the whole lot was finished off with my favourite wedges.

Mid-week already. Thank goodness. I am in full holiday count down mode and in an oddly/constantly chirpy mood. I’ve been doing a lot of phlebotomy shifts over the last couple of weeks and I am well on my way to getting another skill/qualification under my belt. For someone who wanted to work in Journalism, I am still in shock at how well I’ve taken to clinical work! It’s now my ambition to become a fully qualified Health Care Assistant and I am putting thought in to spending 2014 working abroad. There is something very satisfying about working with patients on a one-to-one basis, reception work is also enjoyable but with it comes a lot of abuse and hassle.

Are you working in your chosen field, or has your dream changed as time’s gone on? Has anyone done a year working abroad? Tips and advise welcome!

  1. I love this outfit, the skirt is so pretty.
Working abroad would be amazing. I would love to do a year abroad at some point but I don’t think I’ll ever leave London permanently. x

  2. love your bright colours together, especially those shoes.
I am the least career driving person ever, the school careers advisers didn’t know what to make of me…

As you know, I spent much of my 20s living in various abroad places! It’s got to be done. See what you think of Malaga… can guarantee you will want to stay there for good after our 8 days.

Today I am wearing Pull&Bear top and Bershka skirt… can’t wait to do spanish shopping w/you!

  4. You look gorgeous, loving all the bright colours! I’ve never really considered working abroad, but I’d say if your thinking about it do it whilst you have nothing to tie you down so you don’t look back later in life and wish you had. My sister worked abroad for a year and she loved it, she said she wished she’d done it earlier so she could have done it again πŸ™‚ xx

  5. Ah you look gorge, I can never find anything nice in the Primark near me, it’s not fair!

Funny you should be talking about careers, I’m in the middle of reevaluating mine at the moment. I know what I DON’T want to do, and I’ve been doing it the last five years!!

I’ve studied in France for a year and worked in Spain for a few months – I’d recommend spending time abroad to anyone, such a great experience! Go for it! xx

  7. Loving all the bright colours here, those wedges are amazing. So nice to hear you’ve found something you like and are clearly good at πŸ™‚ sounds rewarding! xx

  8. I would love to live abroad for a while, but have the kids to consider. I say go for it while you can!

I would still like to be a writer, although I was quite happy working in a shop, far preferred it to an office most of the time! Dream would be big house with my own study, and chickens in the garden.

I seem to be very short of Summery clothes now it’s finally here…

  9. I love you in bright colours! I never thought I would end up in marketing, HR was what I was originally going to do so quite a difference!

  10. Loving the sound of working abroad- trust me, living abroad can be a truly amazing experience. And I bet you’d make an awesome nurse… what about it?!

Gorgeous bright colours, wish we were having some of that amazing weather up here too.

  11. You look so lovely with your hair down! You should wear it down more often.

When I was younger I just wanted a job where I could make a load of money and it made me miserable! Now I’d like to work with animals despite the crap pay because I think it would make me so much happier.

  12. What a beautiful outfit πŸ™‚

Working abroad would be amazing! Where would you like to go? Can I come? πŸ˜‰

    I hope you’re taking care sweetheart x

  13. Loving this skirt (can’t believe it is a Primark number!) The shoes are an amazing colour & sunshine perfect. I did a year abroad in France & loved it. if you have the urge I would say go for it, it would be an amazing experience. xxx

  14. Unfortunately I can’t offer much job help seeing as I’m only 17 ;-). I’ve always wanted to go into journalism too but I don’t think anyone can be picky, I’ll be going with the flow πŸ˜‰ xx

  17. Loving this outfit!

I use to work in a pharmacy and starting to look for work in the US and i’m coming to the conclusion i’ll probably be heading back into dispensing work. I think while I had issues with the job in the UK, it was more the people then the job itself. I love being able to help people and while it’s stressful the day use to go really quick! I wanted to be a journalist too, did work experience at my local paper and then every since i’ve never known what I wanted to do with my life. Went between wanting to be a teacher, to a researcher to anything in between. My dream is to own a vintage shop either online or on the highstreet that’s my goal right now!

  18. I love the skirt so very much. It is very pretty. I adore this colour combination. These are still my favourite shoes of yours.

  19. love the brightness, i need to add colour to my wardrobe i wear too much grey starting to look like an elephant now. x

  20. You look lovely and summery here Laura πŸ™‚ I have a friend who did a year abroad and she says it was tough at times, but one of the most rewarding things she’s ever done. Go for it!

  21. looking lovely πŸ™‚ i couldn’t wait to get out my summer bits when the sun decided to show up πŸ˜› x

  22. I’m not working in my chosen field – I studied biology at uni and went on to do some research science in genetics, but funding run out with government cuts, so I know work as a freelance writer, predominantly in fashion – its odd, but in a good way. Although I hope that science will once again be a part of my life some day!

  23. i love how happy you seem in your work, nice to hear something positive about workplaces for a change! my dreams change daily but i have been blessed enough to do some jobs I love recently I suppose.
Adore the brights on you, especially the combo of these wedges and skirt. Wear it all the time, it’s great!

  24. Laura, you have to work abroad! I wish I had but it isn’t really practical now. I’m thinking about changin my career path, I know that I don’t want to continue what I am doing, I just need to figure out what I want to do. That’s the hard part, but if you know what you want to do – go for it!

  25. I absolutely love the colours!

As for working abroad – I did work experience for uni and I did it in London. It was, by far, the best time I ever had. Tips? Well, making sure you have a decent place to stay in which you feel comfortable is essential!

  26. Ahhhhhh, love those sandals! What a joyful ensemble this outfit creates!
I temped in medical staffing at a hospital for 5 months so I am fascinated by all the different roles available! It’s funny the way your career changes from what you would have expected! I wanted to be a musician- I would have happily played flute in the pit for Phantom of the opera or done orchestral playing but I am far too lazy to do all the necessary practice now I am not a student! It’s a hard career being a freelance musician so I am glad I am not doing it. It’s nice to doing the odd-gig or show when asked! I didn’t think I’d be a teacher but doing church children’s work made me realise it wasn’t that bad!
I did a year abroad but it was studying (a scholarship to study Balinese percussion) and I am really glad to have done it because it’s such a totally different experience. I am into languages to that side was great. It’s certainly worth giving it a go for a different perspective! Go for it Laura! πŸ™‚

  29. I think you’d make a great Health Care assistant! I’m working on my dream job, having my own fashion line and business πŸ™‚ and i’m getting there!

& love those colours! A very cheery, summery look.
