In the (shoe) zone.

Oh Summer, the season of sandals and bare legs right? We’re not quite there yet but in the spirit of things I braved the deceptively chilly winds to get the photos for this post- sporting a new pair of sandals with jeans and a jumper just isn’t quite the same is it?

Both the skirt and the top were bought when I went over to Cardiff for my birthday and I’ve been waiting for some warmer weather to wear them. Sadly that weather is yet to arrive but I couldn’t wait any longer. After picking up my staple denim a-line skirt I was a non-denim version too and this beauty in the UO sale was exactly what I had in mind. It was a bit of a random find in the end, when other shops on the high street let me down- I’ll call it fate that I didn’t find one elsewhere though as at £12 this was far less than I was willing to pay as well!
The vest was a bargain in H&M at £7.99 and I love the print and the style, they have since launched a couple of other prints which I might have to go back for, at that price it’s hard not to!
Speaking of bargains, I have once again teamed up with Shoe Zone who I have raved about on the blog many a time before. Their latest arrivals are perfect for any summer occasion and I was taken in by these cute sandals, perfect paired with neutral colours and for finishing off relaxed, bohemian style outfits.

At £14.99 these sandals really do represent excellent value and I have never had an issue with quality from Shoe Zone, there are regular new arrivals on the site (and in store) and it’s easy to see why fellow bloggers also love them!

I hope you’re all enjoying the second May bank holiday, I’m indulging in an utterly lazy day doing nothing much at all- how about you?

If the Shoe Fits with Long Tall Sally

It’s probably hard to believe now but when I was much younger I dreaded buying shoes. As a tall kid with large (not to mention wide) feet the only styles available to me were incredibly clumpy and supremely unflattering. These days it’s much easier to find pretty shoes in bigger sizes and one of my go to places is of course Long Tall Sally who stock a huge array of footwear in sizes 7-13.
From today Long Tall Sally are running a campaign called “If the Shoe Fits” and as part of that they invited me to pick out a pair of shoes to flatter larger feet from their high summer collection. It was no easy task thanks to the huge selection of on trend styles but in the end I settled on the perfect sandals which look and feel amazing whilst preventing a dreaded “clown feet” type feel which often happens with the more trend-led styles available on the high street.

Aren’t they beautiful? I love the lace up shoes that are everywhere right now but have found the flat versions do nothing for me as they elongate my feet and make me feel quite self conscious. The heel on these is perfect height for getting a little bit of boost without leaving me towering alarmingly high over everybody else, and they are quite honestly the comfiest sandals I have ever worn. I’m pretty sure I’ve found my shoe of the summer and it’s one I’ll have no qualms about wearing to anywhere and for everything!

Fellow tall girls, which shoe styles do you find most flattering and are there any that you avoid like the plague? Usually for me a pointed toe is a no go zone…

In the Zone

…The comfort zone that is as today I am back in one of my staple kind of outfits of a few years ago. Until I discovered the joy of jeans or a jumper dress I lived in floral dresses with bright tights and ankle boots. These days my floral dress collection is vastly diminished (something I massively regret) so when I saw this one reduced to something silly like £12 in Urban Outfitters a couple of months ago I made a hasty purchase.

Dress: Urban Outfitters | Boots: Quiz Clothing | Tights: Primark

This dress is a bit of an updated version of those I used to live in. Instead of a standard high neck (or if feeling brave, perhaps a v-neck) it has a really very plunging neckline that is held together by a bow to keep things decent. The sleeves are gloriously floaty and the fabric heavy enough to hang like a dream.

I don’t wear these boots nearly often enough, for some reason I have in my head that they might be uncomfortable but after a solid six hours in them the other day I can confirm otherwise. I’ve become very guilty of sticking on the same old flat boots or trainers these days, I ought to get my shoe mojo back and pop on some heels from time to time.

I wore this outfit on Mother’s Day when I popped over to my parents’ for dinner and a catch up with my parents. I think that now I’ve moved out the time I spend with my parents is definitely more quality time, I know I was guilty of taking their presence for granted when I lived at home. It’s lovely to pop round and actually sit down for a proper chat instead of hurried greetings and shutting myself away. I also love having Mum over to the flat to charm the cat and go shopping in the rather fabulous local shops…

Are there any styles you’re revisiting? How did you relationship with family change or develop when you moved out?

Riverside

It actually feels like a lifetime ago since Ben and I took these photos, we’d gone over to a nearby town to sort out some bits before Ben moved there and decided to make the most of the glorious weather at the time and explore the path down by the river that runs along the back of his street. Clevedon is brilliant like that- there’s the town centre with a smattering of shops, then there is the Victorian sea front and eclectic shops of Hill Road. On the other side of town is the river and the whole place is just somewhere I feel instantly peaceful.

Top: Topshop (sale) | Skirt: Urban Outfitters (alternative) | Sandals c/o Shoe Zone

I seem to have all but given up on wearing anything but mini skirts these days! The one in this post cost me £12 in the Urban Outfitters sale back at the end of April. It’s long sold out now but I’ve linked an alternative above (and to be honest, it’s likely I’ll add it to my collection before long!)

The top was part of my Topshop haul and was an impulse buy to make up the amount on a voucher. I was suckered in by the £7 price tag and wasn’t really expecting to love it quite as much as I do. It is more fitted than a lot of my tops which makes it perfect for pairing with skirts and has a touch of the seventies about it.

I remember it being hot enough to go bare legged in this outfit- this is a fairly momentous occasion as it takes a lot to get me away from my sheer tights! Thankfully my Shoe Zone sandals are comfy enough not to need that little bit of protection, I could walk for miles in these, not bad for £14.99!

Do you have any where near you that makes you instantly relaxed? You can expect to see a lot more of Clevedon on the blog now Ben is living there, there’s so many places I want to show on the blog!

The Brighter Side

Sometimes it’s easy to fall in to a rut when it comes to winter dressing, gravitating toward a palette of black, grey and navy just because the sun isn’t shining as much. I know this is something I am very guilty of- last winter I actually made monochrome my “thing” and as much as I do love it this year I want to make more of a conscious effort to embrace bold and bright colours; if nothing else it’s bound to help keep S.A.D. at bay and brighten up those shorter days.
I can’t for the life of me remember where this dress is from. Mum passed it on to me, brand new with tags after it had sat in her wardrobe unloved for a while and I’ve binned the tag and the dress is in the wash…Where it’s from isn’t important though, it’s such a HAPPY dress, the bright colours make me feel instantly cheerful and I do love a simple shape like this.

The photos were taken near Ben’s studio in Stokes Croft, our usual weekend daytime haunt, or base for further potterings around the city. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- this is such a vibrant area full of personality, the perfect place to wear such a busy dress.

The boots came via Shoe Zone last year and have lasted well, they are looking a little worse for wear here though thanks to them getting a thick coating of mud at a fireworks display the night before and a hasty sponge clean! I’m always amazed that I overlooked Shoe Zone for so long, they once again have some really gorgeous boots in stock at super bargain prices- don’t be put off by the cheap price though, I’m yet to have a problem with the quality of a pair from here…

Which clothing ruts are you looking to break out of? No doubt I’ll be back in monochrome before long, old habits die hard and all that…
