Midi Ground

Firstly, WOAH, thank you so much for all the votes on the Matalan Style Project so far! If you haven’t voted yet and fancy popping on over then do feel free!

Now, this is yesterdays outfit. The dress is Primark; expensive Primark at that. I don’t think I’ve ever paid £15 for a dress in there before, but there is something quite balletic about it and I love the midi length, so I parted with my hard won cash.

Had this dress cost £15 elsewhere I wouldn’t have hesitated on snapping it up, even for a second…most likely deeming it a bargain,
but that price in Primark? I found myself shaking my head and muttering “bloody inflation/rip offs/I’m such a cheapskate” under my breath as I made my way to the till.

Are you the same? Do you have an “acceptable limit” when it comes to certain shops?

P.S. Happy Good Friday,
I hope everyone enjoys the day off AND the sunshine!

  1. I agree with that cost reasoning! If I find a lovely dress in New look/dorothy perkins for £15 I think “bargin!” but in primark, where we’re used to cheaper prices, I think its expensive! weird!

  2. Regardless of the price it is a lovely dress 🙂

I have my limits too when it comes to primark and other shops, even though the item is still cheap in comparison to the whole highstreet it bugs me, where they get these prices from now. x

  3. @Can_iSay

Same! Won’t buy anything from there that hasn’t been knocked down in a sale. I like to pay for what I’m getting. Handy for emergency shoes though.

  4. its a pretty dress but I wouldn’t pay £15 in Primark. Silly really. I suppose it should depend on quality.

  5. ha yeah I am a bit like that with Primark I won’t spend over £15 on one item in there unless it was a really nice pair or boots or a coat! I do expect everything in Primark to be under £12!

  6. Primark is getting a bit ridiculous and for that reason I tend to avoid it- But that dress is really nice and I probably would spend £15 on it because if it were in any other shop it would be pricier still! x

  7. It is a gorgeous dress though and I can see why you went over your primark-budget.

Haha, yeah I know what you mean, I mostly shop at H&M and they can get weird with their prices too. Sometimes an awesome skirt is 10 bucks and than one a lot less appealing is double or more the price, I don’t get it?!

  8. I love that your are able to pull off midi dresses. It’s so floaty, chiffony and summery.

You know…don’t think of £15 as too expensive for Primark (because it is)…just rationalise it as ‘Premium Primark’ and pray it doesn’t fall to bits.

    Have a brilliant weekend. xx:)

  9. I love that dress! I don’t tend to shop in Primark now as, now I’ve nearly got my capsule wardrobe, I’m spending my hard-earned cash on more expensive items. Granted, primark is good for tights!! 🙂

Oh and that skirt from that dress is something I’m looking for, too! 🙂

  10. Nice dress!!!I totally agree with you!A lot of times I find myself feeling weird buying something that costs more than 10 pounds in primark! It’s funny how used to low prices we are!

  11. I am loving that skirt! You’re right, it does look quite balletic and elegant. The length is perfect.

  12. Yes, I do… I think I shouldn’t, but I do!

  13. Wow regardless of price that is so pretty!

  14. My main problem with Primark is that the quality hasn’t gone up with the prices. You used to be able to get decent stuff in there that was quite long lasting, and so I didn’t mind paying a bit extra for it, but everything in there last time I looked was cheap and nasty. I’d rather just save the money and either buy fabric with it or track something nicer down on ebay or in a charity shop.

However I didn’t spot that gorgeous dress so I should probably shush! If it’s nicely made then I don’t see the problem in paying £15 for it – like you say, that would be a sale or bargain price anywhere else!

Where are those fab shoes from?

  15. This dress is so nice, it looks so lovely on you! I wish I could pull off midi-skirts but that length just looks frumpy on me haha.
I totally agree about Primark prices. I bought a jumper there recently that was £16, I was so close to not getting it because it was so ‘expensive’!

  16. I tend to think in terms of cost per wear. It doesn’t really bother me where it comes from, but if looks like it will last long enough to justify the cost per wear then that’s ok.

  17. I actually really like that, I think I’d prefer the skirt as a seperate so I could wear a different top. I love the wedges with it as well!

  18. i love the dress and yeah im like that too! if some jewellery was 5 pounds in topsop and i liked i would prosb buy it but if the same one was in primakr i wouldnt at all buy it! and i like the length!

  19. I actually love this dress . I think with primarni it can totally vary in quality so sometimes its worth paying it and sometimes not. Everyone does do that thing were you think it seems so expensive for primark ! xx

  20. The outfit sure is quite balletic! That is why… you know my ex-ballerina soul… I adore it!

  21. LOL it was worth the splurge though bb 😉 it looks gorgeous on you!

My limit for Primark is ridiculous, I see a bag for £10 & I turn my nose up LOL anywhere else & I’d be like oo bargain!

  22. That’s a really lovely skirt!
I’m not quite sure what the equivilant of Primark would be where I live, but a bargain is still a bargain as long as one actually uses the item:)
I can’t wait to see this skirt in other posts!
    Happy Good Friday!

  23. I’m willing to wear my midi skirt, love the way you did it!!!
    happy Easter to you too!!!

    xx

  24. I get what you mean, I refuse to buy expensive things in Primark because I justify in terms of if I spend the same on a wellmade item from another shop, it’s money better spent x

  25. Ooooooooh that’s the dress I wanted from the previews but my local (large) store has irritatingly not stocked it- nor did Newcastle primark! So jealous! Yep, I’d pay £15 for it! If i really like something, I’d pay more than i usually would for it- like (gulp) the £85 I just spent on a dress- eeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!

  26. Ooo, it’s such a pretty dress. The midi length skirt is really lovely.

I’m defintiely the same about prices. I refuse to pay anything over £12 in Primark, for something, but wouldn’t bat an eyelid if the same thing was more expensive elsewhere.

  27. Such a gorgeous skirt!!!

  28. I definitely do with primark! The store got us all attached and then put the prices up! I still go there but it shocks me every time i see the prices, especially as quality is the same!
