in the half light

H&M Bunny dress, New Look skirt, Tesco tights, Georgia Rose boots c/o Sarenza.

8am starts make it even less likely that I’ll catch decent enough light for semi-ok outfit photos…seriously Spring, hurry up and get here so I’m not prancing around in the half light, and looking over my shoulder as I walk to work. I think this is what I wore on Monday; it’s been a long week!

Yesterday I did my first proper session taking people’s blood at work, I admit, it’s a strange thing to love doing…but love it I do and it’s something I’ve wanted to do ever since I started my job.

What’s something you’d love to do? Strange or not? What’s stopping you from giving it a go?

Almost at the weekend folks. ALMOST!

Pick and Mix

Primark jumper (still going strong after several washes, best £5 ever!), Matalan skirt (another £5 well spent!), Superdrug tights, Faux fur collar, Jeffrey Campbell boots c/o Sarenza

The collar actually came with my blue River Island dress but being detachable it lends itself perfectly to mixing and matching with other outfits. After yesterday’s experiment I’ve decided I rather like this collar lark so hit me up with your favourites so I can make some purchases when I actually get paid (ongoing saga if you follow me on Twitter!)

Back to work again today, I love my Tuesdays off as by the time I go back on a Wednesday it feels like a really short week as Monday is all but forgotten.
I have my first training as a phlebotomist today (blood taker) and I am really quite excited!

What other accessories are good for mixing and matching? I’m open to all suggestions and links (feel free to pimp your own shops!)

Man Up

I am having transitional wardrobe fail. Summery floral prints don’t feel quite right, but I have yet to put much thought in to this seasons work wear, given that I only started work in January and was mainly behind the scenes, I don’t really have a lot that is “front of house” appropriate (yet).

Trousers; Next (stolen borrowed from Mum) Tee; Peacocks, Shoes; New Look

Before I leave I’ll chuck on a blazer and call it smart enough.

Winter office wear suggestions…please? Complicated by the fact one office is like Siberia year round, whilst the other is un-reliable and will sometimes leave you blue with cold and at others have you melting!

Work on a Budget

Last week I had an e-mail from sofeminine, inviting me to put together the best bargain outfit that I could come up with under £50 (and they’d foot the bill). The timing of this was fantastic, as I’ve been starting to ponder how to get a decent workwear wardrobe on a budget. I’m lucky because my job is pretty lax when it comes to what we wear, and at first my standard dresses etc seemed to fit in just fine; but now I’m working there more, and I’m more involved in “front of house” I wanted to invest in some more classic “worky” clothes…but didn’t want to spend a fortune.

My outfit came via Topshop. Somewhere I can only ever afford to shop during the sales. The trousers were £20, reduced from £45 and are the perfect fit and length on me. I’m not a trousers girl, except for work, and I am loathe to spend a lot of money on them, especially as they so rarely fit right…but these do…and although not a traditional colour, they are smart, comfortable and (for once) a quality that will last.

The top, I bought in three colours; a paler blue and a white as well. These were an absolute bargain at £5 each down from £15. It gets hot and work, so loose cotton is an instant winner and that that kind of price, I’m not going to say no!

I would have been able to get some flat, sensible shoes within the budget too, but I opted not to purely because I have NOwhere at all left to store new shoes!

My outfit, as well as the other bloggers who took part will be showcased here, so you’ll be able to pick up all our hints and tips for shopping on a budget.

What are your top budget shopping tips?
Mine would be..

-Shop the sales.

-Look for pieces that are good quality, and won’t date.

-If you see basics at a good price, buy in bulk!

-Don’t buy anything you only like because it’s cheap; it’s a false economy!

watch out world

I’m on wheels!

Finally have my bike up and running! Oh my it is love. Call me strange (it happens, often) but I find men’s bikes more comfortable to ride than ladies bikes, talking to Trudi I think it’s because I am tall (and er, manly?). Yeah. Whatever, I adore it!

It does however mean an end to girly handbags on some days.

Tempted as I was by a floral Cath Kidston backpack, in the end function won over looks.

Outfit of yesterday (as you can see, the flats are wearing surprisingly well!)

Today = more work, a leaving do and some sleep in preparation for Bath tomorrow. I plan to spend the weekend mostly comatose, with a hefty dose of blog reading/commenting thrown in for good measure.
